CPC Votes for Second Interviews, Legal Opinion on Hiring
Other Committee · Meeting of September 17, 2026
Nantucket preservation panel demands redo of contested hiring process, invokes charter against town. The Community Preservation Committee voted unanimously to require in-person second interviews with both finalists for its administrator opening and to seek outside legal counsel, after members said town administration selected a candidate using an informal ranking rather than the interviews requested on August 11. The panel, whose chair is identified in the meeting only as Linda, approved $25,448 for Interfaith Council rental assistance, $133,321.45 for Nantucket Racket Sports Association electrical work and $39,317.69 for a roof repair by applicant Mariah Mitchell.
"We have been attacked by memos," one member said, while town HR representative Amanda Perry countered that the office had followed its standard structured-interview process. Members also voted to stay in their current leased office rather than move to a town-offered space they say fails ADA accessibility standards.
