Land Bank Backs Madaket Playground Concept
Other Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Nantucket's Land Bank Commission backs a first-ever playground for Madaket. Parker Swift and Matthew Swift, presenting for the roughly 250-member Madaket Conservation Association, told commissioners "there really is no space up there for kids to play," pointing out the island's entire western half lacks a play structure found in Siasconset and Codfish Park. Commissioners, including remote member Neil, who called it "exactly what the land bank should be doing," directed staff to identify suitable land bank parcels rather than the separate Madaket Land Trust's property, citing maintenance capacity.
No design, site or budget was approved. Separately, the commission approved its fiscal year 2027 operating budget, the August 25 meeting minutes, a transfer-business item and consent items, all by unanimous roll call, before entering executive session on litigation and a real estate matter.
