Shellfish Board Moves to Seek Scallop Limit Hike
Nantucket's Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board moved toward asking the Select Board for authority to raise the commercial bay scallop bushel limit from five boxes to six.
Other Committee · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Nantucket's Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board moved toward asking the Select Board for authority to raise the commercial bay scallop bushel limit from five boxes to six. Members including Jeff, Jim and Bob debated timing around the board's Nov. 4 meeting, since Veterans Day canceled a Nov. 11 session and waiting until Nov. 18 would push past Thanksgiving. The board also plans to finalize a shellfish regulation package next meeting covering a scalloping apprentice program, an added Saturday for soft-shell clamming and green crab removal language.
Members said the DEP has "no one that does it" for Chapter 91 license enforcement at Great Harbor Yacht Club, where a pump failure knocked out the town's commercial fuel dock for roughly a week. No formal votes were taken Tuesday beyond approving the agenda and adjourning unanimously at 5:59 p.m.
