NANTUCKET — The Nantucket Commission on Disability reported fielding its first-ever ADA discrimination complaint after a service-dog user was denied entry to a Nantucket establishment this summer. Facilitator and town ADA Coordinator Brenda McDonough said she coordinated with Police Chief Kerr and staff to resolve the case, explaining "an emotional support animal is not a service animal." Members also reviewed a season of accessibility fixes: new accessible parking at Bartlett's Farm and in Siasconset, re-engineered room entrances at the Nantucket Inn, clarified Steamship Authority terminal signage, and a resolved complaint that courtesy vehicles from the White Elephant and Nantucket Hotel were parking in accessible spaces. McDonough said of the hotel violation, "I was livid." The commission approved its May 8 minutes and adjourned, both by unanimous voice vote.
