NANTUCKET — The Nantucket Land Bank Commission approved a $9,038,600 contract to build affordable housing from relocated historic buildings. Commissioners unanimously awarded the construction contract to J.J. Cardosi, splitting costs between the Affordable Housing Trust, which is funding $4,813,000, and the Land Bank, covering $4,225,600, for units at 158 Madaket Road and 159 Hummock Pond Road.
The commission also amended its permit for the 41 Jefferson Avenue beach access area, adding a shaded bench while declining to expand parking beyond roughly 16 informal spaces, after abutter Jay Young asked that a portable restroom be relocated to reduce odor, saying "I don't know what you can do about that." NRSA president Mark Mackler reported membership growth from 375 to over 550 members tied to new pickleball and padel courts, seeking only approval, not funding, for a two-court expansion. Commissioners also approved a deconstruction agreement for 19 East Creek Road and voted to waive penalty fees in a transfer-fee hardship case.
