Nantucket CPC Approves $341,000 in Grants, Sets September Application Deadline

Other Committee · Meeting of June 23, 2026

Nantucket's Community Preservation Committee approved more than $341,000 in grant disbursements and set a new fall application deadline at its June 23 remote meeting. The committee voted unanimously to release funds to four grantees: NISDA ($42,514.03, FY2024), a Heifer Barn structural and waterproofing project ($24,757.36, FY2024), the Nantucket Racket Sports Association ($250,000, FY26), and the Interfaith Council for rental assistance ($23,695, FY26). The committee also voted unanimously to move the FY28 grant submission deadline to Friday, September 18, 2026, by 4 p.m., replacing a first-Friday-after-Labor-Day cutoff members said was too compressed for summer applicants.

The chair warned that the committee has gone eight months without a staff administrator after two candidates declined offers, saying "we can't function in 18 hours" under the town's current offer of a part-time position at a pay rate below what the committee has sought since at least January. The committee additionally raised a dispute with the Nantucket Preservation Trust, which has raised its preservation easement fee from roughly $3,000 to $5,000 to $25,000, a cost the chair said the CPC will not absorb into grants to nonprofit grantees such as the Maria Mitchell Association.
