Other Committee · Meeting of July 8, 2026

Nantucket Cemetery Commission reorganizes leadership as outgoing chair steps down for health reasons. Outgoing Chair Alan, citing health concerns and memory issues, nominated Lee as the new chair at the commission's July 8 meeting; Fran was re-elected vice chair and Jason was elected secretary, all by unanimous roll-call vote including newly sworn-in member Amelia Holmes, who attended her first meeting via video conference. The commission also unanimously approved the sale of two $900 cremains lots at Pulpos Cemetery, lot J31 to Jeanette Rose Hudson and lot G2 to Sophia Libird, and heard that monument restoration contractor John plans to resume work at New North Cemetery, the final site in the commission's multi-year restoration program, after the summer slowdown, with new mowing contractor Murtau Landscaping having already cleared all nine town cemeteries.

Alan, reflecting on a tenure that stretches back to the commission's origins as a working group, said he wanted "to be sure that the cemetery commission is in good hands."
