Nantucket Agricultural Commission eyes biochar machine and poultry license for Boynton Lane. Meeting with a bare quorum of three of five members, the commission heard that the Land Bank's deer donation facility processed 58 deer this season, yielding nearly 900 pounds of venison for the food pantry through Nourish Nantucket. Commission member Isaac said a mobile biochar unit under consideration costs roughly $600,000, while American Farmland Trust's field-trial budget ran close to $300,000, pushing the group to prioritize local biochar production first.

The commission is also weighing a poultry-processing license for Boynton Lane, pending drainage upgrades, and flagged a February 25 meeting on reinstating Nantucket's lapsed state agricultural conservation district status. The chair called the deer program's results ones "others would be astonished, jealous, and would want to replicate." The panel also approved its December 3 meeting minutes.
