Harbor board takes no votes, keeps fuel-access issue open

Nantucket's Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board took no substantive votes but dug into a stalled fuel-access problem for commercial fishermen. Board member Anderson said the insurance barrier cited by Great Harbor Yacht Club and Finger Boatworks for declining truck-to-boat fueling is "overcomable" and volunteered to call mainland insurers, while Sherwin agreed to contact off-island vendors and Maine's Island Institute. Members noted Great Harbor Yacht Club recently gave the town $630,000 for eelgrass study and mooring upgrades even as it declines to accommodate commercial fuel deliveries.

Proposals to open recreational scalloping on Mondays and Tuesdays and to relocate the harbor's no-wake zone both require Town Meeting articles, per information relayed from town official Franzuto. Sherwin also asked to add a review of the apprentice scalloping program to the March 17 agenda, citing few young entrants to the fishery.
