NANTUCKET -- May 21, 2026, Nantucket Parks and Recreation Commission approves school concerts, hears sweeping capital project update. The commission voted unanimously May 21 to permit a Nantucket High School rock band end-of-year concert at the town bandstand on June 9 and a Cyrus Peirce Middle School band concert on June 17, both from 6 to 7 p.m. the first such requests the Cultural Affairs and Special Events Coordinator said she has received. Parks and Recreation Director Charlie told the commission the Nobody Here fields project is being restructured with bid alternates after the first round of bids came in above the appropriated amount, with a rebid planned within a month and a contract target of September. The Annual Town Meeting funded just over $700,000 through the Community Preservation Committee for two Little League field renovations, along with a Tom Nevers hockey rink rebuild, debris removal Phase 2, softball field fencing, and Delta Fields perimeter fencing to stop e-bike damage. On the skate park, Charlie confirmed roughly $70,000 to $75,000 in reappropriated funds is available for repairs and said he will seek a vendor quote, but warned the appropriation language for "maintenance and upkeep" may limit the scope of any improvements.
