Nantucket Committee Backs Surfside Road Parcel Sale, Defers Complicated Second Case

Nantucket's Real Estate Assessment Committee voted 4-0 to recommend the Select Board sell a small remnant parcel at 110 Surfside Road for approximately $19,114, while deferring a more complex neighboring case and signaling the town's first review of its land-pricing formula since 2021.

NANTUCKET -- May 18, 2026, Nantucket's Real Estate Assessment Committee voted 4-0 to recommend the Select Board sell a small remnant parcel at 110 Surfside Road for approximately $19,114, while deferring a more complex neighboring case and signaling the town's first review of its land-pricing formula since 2021. Chair John Bresher and members Lee Saperstein, Nat Lowell, and Thomas Farida supported the conveyance of Parcel 15, a former paper road section of 9,102 square feet priced at $2.10 per square foot, to the owners of 110 Surfside; member Jesse Bell recused. On the adjacent L-shaped Parcel G near 131 Barbara Street, the committee agreed to let interested abutters consult among themselves before any request for proposals is issued, after attorney Susan McCarthy told the board her clients at 133 Surfside need the parcel to gain enough lot area for a septic system upgrade on their undersized 24,500-square-foot LUG-1 lot. Assessor Rob Ranney was asked to prepare materials for a June meeting on property-value inflation and the current excess-land rate of $100,000 per acre, which underpins the base price factor the town has used without revision for five years.
