Nantucket board approves Nobodeer sale, defers Surfside land decision

Other Committee · Meeting of February 13, 2026

Nantucket Real Estate Assessment Committee OKs a small land sale, stalls on a bigger one over zoning fears. The three-member panel, chaired by John Bresher with members Lee Saperstein and Nat Lowell, voted 3-0 Friday to recommend selling a leftover 2,000-square-foot parcel near 25 Nobodeer Road for $5,400, forwarding it to the Select Board's February 18 meeting. A second, roughly 7,000-square-foot L-shaped parcel off Surfside Road proved thornier: staff liaison Tracy McDonald said several abutters want pieces of it, but the landowner it wraps around, Barbara Osborne, hasn't said whether she wants to buy it herself.

Saperstein warned that splitting the lot for competing bidders "has the potential to create regularity factor issues." The committee voted 3-0 to defer the matter until it hears from Osborne and gets a subdivision cost estimate.
