Land Bank Tightens Disclosure Rules on Property Transfers

Other Committee · Meeting of January 13, 2026

Nantucket Islands Land Bank Commission adopts new disclosure rules for corporate property transfers. Staff said roughly 80 percent of recent transfers involve an LLC, trust or corporation, prompting a policy requiring entity buyers to submit ownership paperwork five business days before closing so the land bank's 2 percent transfer fee can be verified. A finance staffer, referred to in the meeting only as Marianne, said she "spend[s] a lot of time reconciling and reviewing these transfers after they have happened." Commissioners separately approved a 26-space parking and dune-restoration plan for the land bank's 41 Jefferson Avenue property, headed to the Conservation Commission this week, and accepted commissioner Neil's donation of a stone "Land Bank Public Parking" marker for a disputed lot off Hallowell Lane.

They also cleared the 15th annual Smooth Hummocks half marathon, which treasurer Jim Mann said draws up to 1,150 registered runners and raised $30,000 for youth athletics last year.
