State health law group trains Nantucket board, no votes taken

Nantucket Board of Health sits through legal training, takes no substantive votes. Cheryl Sabara, executive director and senior staff attorney for the Massachusetts Association of Health Boards, and Mike Hugo, the group's director of strategy and government relations, briefed the board on public health law, open meeting law, public records law and the state's "SAFE 2.0" reform statute, Chapter 111, Section 27D. Hugo warned members that personal texts and emails sent during board business are "discoverable," saying "don't send texts, don't send emails, don't do anything during a meeting that could subject you to having a record requested." He noted Nantucket's health department already participates in a regional cross-jurisdictional collaborative and must file an annual compliance report by August 31 or risk losing state public health funding.
The board closed the session with a unanimous roll-call vote to adjourn.
