Finance Committee holds hearing on 84 Nantucket town meeting articles

Nantucket Finance Committee reads all 84 town meeting articles, votes on none. The committee closed its public hearing on the 2026 Annual Town Meeting warrant unanimously after hearing objections to two articles it will revisit February 19. Seasonal resident Doug Rose urged members to reject Article 73, a Baxter Road erosion-control lease he called "vague and open-ended," noting it mirrors articles withdrawn in 2004 and 2025 after the town and SVPF failed to agree on license terms.
Sconset resident Pamela Swan warned Article 68's golf-course maintenance exemption could let crews mow "at 3 a.m." near her home. Transportation Director Mike Burns said a Miacomet Road intersection flagged by resident Walter Flaherty sits on a high-injury network and may get a Select Board-recommended pilot stop-sign or roundabout treatment this spring.
