Select Board · Meeting of October 21, 2026

NANTUCKET — The Nantucket Select Board voted 4-1 Wednesday to approve a $302,000, three-year contract with TRC Companies to consolidate the town's scattered PFAS testing data into a single database. Member Jill Vieth cast the lone dissenting vote, arguing the town was "borrowing money for studies" rather than budgeting for it and calling the approach "bad fiscal policy." The board also approved a noise bylaw waiver letting a Comcast subcontractor work overnight downtown, and heard from Director of Public Health Joe Watson and member Brooke Mohr on efforts to curb the island's deer population through expanded hunting and a Land Bank-led coordination group, with member Bob DeCosta volunteering to serve as liaison. Residents Tom Barrett and Amy Eldridge separately questioned roughly $2.24 million the town has agreed to pay Sherburne Commons under a newly finalized memorandum of understanding.
