Nantucket runners lace up this week for the Moonlight Run and the Race for Recovery, two island road races tied to local causes.

NANTUCKET --

HIGH SCHOOL -- At the Sept. 22 Nantucket Land Bank Commission meeting, a committee member discussing Sconset golf operations noted that the island's JV golf team has "a lot of home matches" there this fall, calling the program "gotten really big." Coach Dave Webb is reportedly building a new feeder club team for seventh and eighth graders, with the commission member promising "a good update once I get through the season."

COMMUNITY -- Land Bank staff announced at the same meeting that the organization is participating in a moonlight run starting at 6 p.m. Thursday from the Madaket Beach parking lot, crossing a series of Land Bank properties. The event is organized by the Monument Running Group and the Nantucket Athletic Association; staff said they were seeking volunteers to run, noting that runner Dana was dealing with blisters that could keep her out.

Also on the calendar: the Race for Recovery, run across Land Bank property, set for Sunday, Sept. 24, starting at 9 a.m. at Brightwood's Farm. Staff said the race "directly supports Tim Lepri and Aileen Womack's Addiction Solutions in Nantucket, their clinic and nonprofit mission."

Separately, Land Bank staff gave an update on Sconset golf operations, saying the Tuesday women's league, run by Judy, continues to draw "a bunch of women," while some senior players have asked to join the Tuesday women's league as well. Staff also acknowledged the "incredible amount of work" by staff, including Susan and Tim, in organizing the recent cross-island hike.
